Jeep Prepares New Cherokee Trailhawk Version With Enhanced Off-Road Capability

Jeep is preparing the most off-road-capable version of the new Cherokee yet. The company showed a camouflaged Cherokee Trailhawk during off-road testing — the crossover tackles sand dunes, rocky climbs, and sections with severe unevenness.

The Cherokee Trailhawk's existence was confirmed back in June, though at the time Jeep limited itself to a few images. The new video shows running prototypes for the first time and gives a look at how the vehicle is being prepared for off-road driving.

Even under camouflage, the Trailhawk's differences from the standard Cherokee are noticeable. The crossover gets a new front bumper that increases the approach angle, the model's signature red tow hooks, and additional underbody protection. The prototypes are also fitted with off-road tires featuring an aggressive tread pattern.

The Trailhawk is expected to receive reinforced underbody protection and special chassis tuning. Jeep has not yet disclosed all the technical details, so the final all-wheel-drive specifications and the range of off-road modes remain unknown for now.

The Trailhawk will be based on the standard Cherokee's hybrid powertrain. It includes a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, two electric motors, and a 1.08 kWh battery. The system's combined output is 210 hp, with maximum torque reaching 312 Nm.

The hybrid powertrain is paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. The standard Cherokee is already offered with all-wheel drive, but the Trailhawk will receive additional settings for driving on challenging terrain. In particular, special torque distribution modes and settings for tackling rocky sections are expected.

For Kazakhstan, this version could be of particular interest due to its off-road equipment. However, it is not yet known whether the new Cherokee Trailhawk will officially arrive on the Kazakhstan market. Jeep has not yet announced pricing, trim levels, or the model's sales availability outside its core markets.

An exact premiere date for the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk has not yet been announced. A full presentation is expected to take place soon — at which point the manufacturer will reveal ground clearance, geometric approach/departure angles, and the final list of off-road equipment.
